Looking Back on LEOSA
Organizations work hard to have an impact on society and many achieve great things along the way. LEAA enjoys many highlights in our two decades of service; moments that include a support mission to New Orleans on the immediate heels of Hurricane Katrina to help restore police computer systems in the hardest-hit areas, as well as bringing the New Orleans Make-a-Wish Foundation back online. We gathered triumphantly in New York when Time-Warner bowed its head in defeat and took the rap album "Cop Killer" off the shelves of stores across America. But perhaps our proudest moment was standing in the wings as President George W. Bush signed HR 218, the Law Enforcement Officer's Safety Act, into law in 2004. (see photo below)
From contributing to the original language of the Bill and supporting its passage with in-depth research, LEAA left a lasting mark on American history through enhancing the safety of officers, their families and communities.
