Less Lethal Technologies (LLT)

Since the first can of CS spray and then pepper spray, effective LLT has been the hoped-for Holy Grail for officer safety, as well as reducing the risk to bystanders and criminals themselves as police try to quell a violent event. LEAA has taken a leadership role in the public and policy debate, working hand-in-hand with developers and testing labs to evaluate pepper sprays, tasers and other technologies designed to disable violent offenders with high reliability and minimal residual effect. LEAA is announcing a new study to review the maturation of the current industry and look ahead to new entries into the police LLT arsenal. As always, LEAA will dive under the hood to explain detailed features, benefits and hazards presented with each technology and offer recommendations as to how these tool fit in your Use of Force continuum.
